What do you get when you gather companies such as 5Zigen, Mugen, and Honda, and unite them in a factory? The result is one badass 4-door beast. On this side of the planet four doors are generally looked upon as grocery getters. But when you take a trip 6,000 miles over the Pacific Ocean onto a little island called Japan, you’ll find some of the sickest sedans known to man.
Birthed at Honda and matured through 5Zigen, this Accord Euro-R began as a demo car and later developed into a full-blown race car.
The Euro-R was recently shipped to the U.S. to compete in this year's Super Street Time Attack battle, where it placed third in its class and 21st overall. 5Zigen has shown just why they deserve to compete with the best by designing one of the top N/A sedans on the planet.
This CL7 is decked out from head to toe in Mugen fashion and enveloped in 5Zigen’s signature colors and sponsors. The interior was stripped faster than USC’s shot at the National Championship title and in went a Mugen steering wheel, Mugen digital cluster and a Bride full bucket racing seat.
In order to provide enough power to go heads up with some of the top FF contenders, the already potent K20A received upgraded piping to allow a greater air flow in and out of the car. A 5Zigen ram air intake system feeds fresh air into the Toda throttle body which restricts contaminants from entering the motor. Fuel is shoved into the motor with a Bosch high pressure fuel pump and the air/fuel mixture is monitored and adjusted with a Motec GT computer. Keeping the vitals fresh is an ARC radiator and oil cooler. All the fumes that are combusted in the motor's chambers are released through a 5Zigen dual exhaust header and exit through a ProRacer Racing Spec exhaust system.
Speed isn’t the only essential part of owning a time attack race. Being able to rip the winding course will definitely give you a great chance for a top. A set of Ohlins DFV dampers were used to drop the CL7 and keep it balanced as it takes each corner towards the finish line. To keep understeer at a minimum, a set of Brembo brakes were installed to evenly control each side of the car while shredding the pavement.
5Zigen has added one more to the family of Super Taikyu cars and we expect many more to come.
